We seek out “hands on mission’ projects for the children to actually do and have success in accomplishment. Children learn by doing and knowing why Christian’s serve and help people near and far.
NEw TRier Food Pantry
During January, when the food pantry stocks are low, 3-6th graders meet at Dominick’s and purchase food and household items requested by the Pantry. Each shopping cart is given an allocation of money, a calculator and pen and paper. Deciding on the most important items and staying in budget is a great task.
A Just Harvest
Grades 3-6th meet in our church large kitchen to mix up the ingredients for 12 casseroles which will be cooked and served at A Just Harvest. Each child makes more than one casserole, follows instructions and cleans up.
Kairos Prison Ministry
Elementary age children create handprints and placemats and contribute homemade cookies so that adult members provide weekend leadership at Stateville Prison. Discussion about why we minister to prisoners is about justice and forgiveness and visiting Jesus in prison. Download Cookie Recipes and place-mat/poster instructions here.
